fruhling
Spring seems to be here on and off, with a combo of warm weather and also rain. But! Purple alpine flowers! And barlauch (bear garlic) that you can gather to make special pesto sauce with! I am totally part of the playground mafia now, by the way. I know about half the moms. Point of pride, maybe? I had a great time with Rubes. We played an intense game of Catan and hiked to Andechs and enjoyed...

correction
So I kind of lied in my last post, which was written in a fit of stress and anxiety. Basically- wrong. I will, in fact, write about my job again. There were just some problems. I don’t want anyone to freak out or worry! I’ll update more later with tales of my adventures with Rubes and other very nice and lovely things. Also, the sun was bright and beautiful today.

two bitty rants
So I told Honza I would write these two rants down for posterity. Number one: I am all in favor of the German tradition of having these auditory theater productions on CD. But WHY, oh WHY do the voices on the kids’ CDs have to be the most annoying, nails-on-chalkboard things? If you are a forty year old woman then why are you contorting your voice to try and talk like what you think Pippi...

glunkglunk
Ugh. Sick yet AGAIN. The biggest hazard with working with tiny children. I sound kind of like a combination of Smeagol and Darth Vader with a touch of prepubescent boy. I had a crazy feverish dream last night that I saw a play at Berkeley High School called LSD Nutella and that the mayor of Munich played a character named Herr Cheesecake and then he walked up to me and informed me that the Mafia...

so i found this story...
I found this story I wrote when I was sixteen. It ain’t bad for a sixteen-year-old. Here it is, if you want it! h1 { margin-top: 0in; margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 200%; }h1.western { font-family: “Times New Roman”,serif; font-size: 12pt; }h1.cjk { font-family: “Arial”; font-size: 12pt; }h1.ctl { font-family: “Arial”; font-size: 12pt; }p {...

back from austria
I returned back from Austria—well, and then from a full day with my au pair family—to beautiful daffodils, an avocado, and a box of Girl Scout cookies (Samoas and Thin Mints…NOM). Thanks Mom and Honza! The week in Hinterthal, Austria in the Alps was a combination of exhaustion, annoyance but also some groovy moments. I was basically working every day from 8:30 a.m. to...

ein bisschen tribute
If the following paragraph is too sappy and ridiculous for you, please skip this blog! I just wanted to say how lucky I feel to have such a wonderful person here with me—I mean Honza, of course! He has been so supportive and gracious and thoughtful, even when I am stressed out (which happens every so often) or sick. More importantly, he is fun and keeps me positive and is full of love and...

ich bin ein berliner
Honza and I had quite a nice weekend in Berlin. I went specifically to see him perform with his orchestra in Berlin—they played Brahms, Wagner and Mahler’s Das Klagende Lied, a piece that involves four choirs and five soloists, so it’s a really impressive piece both in sight and auditory-wise. We stayed with our friend Johanna and I got to see Talia, who I went to school with...
